What to see in Zarautz?

Zarautz is a small coastal town in Gipuzkoa, founded more than 800 years ago and with a historic whaling and shipbuilding tradition. It’s a town full of cultural and leisure activities. Its beach is one of the most highly valued by surf lovers, who literally make a pilgrimage from all over the world to ride its mythical waves. The town also has a deep-rooted popular tradition of weightlifting and rowing.

Zarautz is also considered one of the Basque gastronomic temples. In its streets are hidden a multitude of restaurants and taverns serving delicacies of astronomical quality.

  • The promenade from Zarautz to Getaria. 

There’s also a route through the mountains which can be easily reached, following the signs along the way, as far as Getaria. If you continue along the road, you can reach Zumaia.
